Regenuary: What is it and what are the opportunities for farmers?

The term ‘regenerative farming' is one that has become more used over the years.

On Instagram the hashtag #regen has over 1.9 million posts, and across social media farmers from all over the world have become part of the ‘regen' movement.Ìý

Veganuary

Regenuary was started in January 2020 by Glen Burrows, co-founder of The Ethical Butcher, in response to Veganuary which began in 2014 and took over the first month of the year to celebrate veganism.Ìý

Glen, a former vegetarian, saw how large corporate companies such as KFC were harnessing the power of Veganuary and set up the Regenuary campaign to encourage people to think about where they source their food from, and spark a conversation about agriculture and the narrative that plant-based is better for the planet.Ìý

Farm-to-fork

Now in its fifth year, on Instagram The Ethical Butcher said:Ìý

"This #regenuary and beyond, join us as we continue to celebrate our local producers, support regenerative agriculture, champion our farmers and enjoy food that nurtures both body and our planet.

"We will ask the question: Can we scale regenerative farming practices so it can achieve greater impact and change the culture of food consumption?"Ìý

Does this method of farming present the industry with new opportunities? And are the public interested in this narrative?
