Limousin heifer takes Leyburn championship

Heifers led the way at Leyburn's spring spectacular with Garrowby Farms, Bugthorpe, taking home the championship, under judge Elizabeth Vance, Newton Stewart, with a Limousin heifer.

This Plumtree Fantastic daughter went on to sell for the day's top price of £4,900 to Anthony Kitson of Kitsons Butchers, Northallerton, Stockton, and Five Houses 51AVÊÓƵShop Crathorne.

The reserve champion from Dylan Townend, Malton, was another Limousin heifer, which stood second to the champion, before taking reserve champion heifer, then overall reserve.

It later went on to sell for £3,000 to Beth and Luke Wilkinson, Leyburn.

From what was an extremely strong class of Limousin heifers came the day's second top price, when Haltwhistle consignor, John Smith-Jackson's third prize heifer, sold at £4,000 to Georgina Laws, Hauxwell.

Garrowby Farms also took home the steer championship, with this one also going to Kitson's Butchers at £1,600.

Bill and Maureen Orme, Askrigg, took the reserve champion steer and top price steer on the day at £1,800.

The champion British Blue award went to Guy Hird, Whashton, whose heifer sold for £1,550.

D.C. and K.L Hutchinson, Bowes, took home the baby beef championship with their five-month-old Limousin heifer, which sold for £1,750.
