Salers bulls at the second round of Stirling bull sales this month sold to a 6,000gns high, with 12 bulls sold to average 4,235, back 574 on the year, with a 57 per cent clearance rate.

Stirling Salers sell to 6,000gns

Salers bulls at the second round of Stirling bull sales this month sold to a 6,000gns high, with 12 bulls sold to average 4,235, back 574 on the year, with a 57 per cent clearance rate.

Sale leader was pre-sale overall champion Darnford Ross from Aberdeenshire breeder David Watson.

This April 2021-born Bacardi Nice Guy son, out of Darnford Faith, sold to the judge John Wildman, Dumfries.

Next at 5,500gns was junior section winner Whitebog Robert, from Alister MacKenzie, at Whitebog, Fortrose. A July-2021 born son of Whitebog Lascar, out of Whitebog Ivana, it was purchased by the Scottish Government Bull Stud, Inverness.

Three bulls from the Rednock pen from Gill and Malcolm Pie, Stirling, made 4,800gns, the first being Rednock Rodney Poll. This March 2021-born bull by Cumbrian Royal, out of Rednock Delphine poll, sold to J.C. McLaren and Partners, Perthshire.

At the same money was another similar aged bull from the same home, Rednock Rocky. By Drumaglea Kes, out of Royal Highland Show 2018 reserve junior female winner Rednock Molly, it went home with Ferguson Brothers, Linlithgow

Another Kes son, Rednock Radar, was the third at this money. This time out of Rednock Precious, it was knocked down to A. Young, Stirling.

Females sold to a top of 2,500gns in the Cleuchhead female production draft to average 2,310 and a 100 per cent clearance rate. Sale leader was Cleuchhead Gentle 1599 which sold in-calf to Cleuchhead Renegade to Beoch Farms, Stranraer.

Averages: 12 bulls, 8,034 (-574 on 2022); 5 females, 2,500
