Records smashed for Badger Face Welsh Mountains
NEW heights were reached for the Badger Face Welsh Mountain breed at Brecon.
Sale topper and new breed record holder at 5,000gns in the Society's 50th anniversary year was the pre-sale show Torddu champion, a shearling ram from Matthew and Rhiannon Bevan of the Y-Feni flock, Raglan.
The buyer was the judge, Aron Hemmings for his Llanfynydd based, AJH flock.
Next at 2,300gns, also from the Bevans, was the third prize-winning shearling ram, which went to Matthew and Donna Evans, Abergavenny.
Top price ram lamb at 1,500gns, from D.G., B. and I.O. Thomas, Llanddeusant, was the second prize-winner, which went to Osian Paewai-Jones, Capel Isaac.
Torddu females topped at 1,500gns, for the Evans, beating the family's previously held Torddu female record of 1,000gns.
This was for two-year-old ewe which had won at this year's Royal Welsh Show. The buyer was Don Green, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Top price ewe lamb at 950gns was the female champion consigned by Geraint and Ifor Jones, Llanllwni, Carmarthenshire, which went to Messrs King and Jeffreys, Llanelli.

听Torwens set 听new female record
The female and overall Torwen champion, Silian Bessie, consigned by Timothy Evans, New Cross, Ceredigion, set a new female record across both sections when selling for 2,000gns.
It sold to the judge, Mathew Brown, for the Hudolus flock of M., S. and C. Brown, Llanpumsaint, Carmarthenshire.
Next in the females, at 600gns, was the second prize ewe lamb from Huw and Kate Williams, Talley, Carmarthenshire, which sold to Steffan Griffiths, Kidwelly.
Shearling ewes topped at 550gns for Rhys Mills, Llanidloes, Powys, selling to Messrs Ashley, Rhydcymerau, Carmarthenshire.
Males topped at 1,900gns, setting a new male centre Torwen record, for the second prize ram lamb and reserve male champion from Gareth Lloyd, Brynaman, Carmarthenshire. 听
It sold to Connor Marshall, Rhydargaeau, Carmarthenshire.
Next, at 1,300gns, was a shearling ram from Messrs Brown which was snapped up by Aled Groucott, Crumlin, Gwent, for 1300gns.
The male champion and ram lamb class winner, consigned by Messrs Williams, made 1,000gns to Messrs Brown.
Also, at 1,000gns was the first prize shearling ram from Caryl Howells, Llanddeusant, Carmarthenshire, which was shared by Messrs King and Jeffreys and Messrs Griffiths, Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire.

Champion tops Lanark Kerry Hills
KERRY Hill trade reached 4,000gns at Lanark for the pre-sale show champion, Woodhouse 51AV视频Full Send, from Ellie Owens, Shobdon, Herefordshire.
The shearling ram, which was male champion at this year's Royal Welsh Show, was by 12,000gns Woodhouse 51AV视频El Fabiolo and out of a Leinthall ewe, making it a full brother to Woodhouse 51AV视频Fendi, breed champion at the Royal Highland, Great Yorkshire and Royal Welsh shows this summer.
The buyer was T.R. Evans, of the Calcot flock, Llandrinio, Powys.
Next at 2,800gns was Drumheldric Fandango, a shearling ram by a Penygelly ram, from E.M. Duncan, Milton of Campsie, which sold to the Stewart family's Balbrae flock, Lennoxtown.
At 2,200gns was Woodhouse 2 Firestorm, from J. and P, Owens, Shobdon. By Woodhouse 2 Diamond, it sold to Anna Smith, West Calder.
Hassockrigg Fatboy Slim, a shearling ram by Birsca Caspian from Sophie McCarlie, Shotts, was knocked down for 2,100gns to J.P. Swainson and Sons, Thursby.
听Females
Female trade was led at 2,000gns by reserve female champion, Top Spot Glamor Puss, a ewe lamb by Pentrenant Choir Boy from A.M. Burgess, New Abbey, Dumfries, which sold to G. Meakins, Whitemill, Carmarthenshire.
At 1,600gns was the female and reserve overall champion, Hassockrigg Fast n Furious, a shearling ewe from Ms McCarlie, which also took the Crochmaid Polaris Perpetual Quaich for the highest-placed home-bred Kerry Hill from a Scottish flock.
It was knocked down to Josh Farrell, East Lothian.
Aged rams topped at 1,700gns for the reserve male champion, Hilltop Evan by Birsca Black Magic from J. Graham, Corrie, Dumfriesshire, which sold to Geraint and Alys Roberts, Denbigh.
Averages: 1 aged ram, 拢1,785; 17 shearling rams, 拢1,207.50; 4 ram lambs, 拢572.25; 3 aged ewes, 拢350; 21 gimmers, 拢625; 17 ewe lambs, 拢602.82.

New high for Devon Closewools
DEVON Closewool breed records were broken at Blackmoor Gate, when a four-tooth ram from Messrs Studen Barton, Highampton, sold for 2,600gns to G. Dart and Son, Great Champson.
Next, at 2,200gns, was the reserve champion ram from Roy Richards, South Mollton, which sold to D. and M. Elliott, Dulverton, with four more rams selling in excess of 1,500gns.
Breeding ewes sold to 700gns twice for the pre-sale show champion and reserve from Messrs Richards, which both sold to Messrs Hodge and Walters, Okehampton.

NEMSA lambs top at 拢660/head at Kirkby Stephen
MULE gimmer lambs at the North of England Mule Sheep Association sale at Kirkby Stephen peaked at 拢660/head, with the 7,010 lambs averaging 拢190.32/head, a rise of 拢23.18/head on the year.听
Selling for the top price was the third-prize pen of 10 in the open section, from Messrs Alderson, Baldersdale, which sold to Messrs Richardson, Dufton.听
Messrs Richardson secured another third-prize pen, this time from Kilnstown Farm, Carlisle, for 拢460/head.听
The team at Kilnstown sold other pens at 拢285/head and 拢245/head, and a total of 455 lambs to average 拢216.99/head.听
The champion pen from Messrs Brown, Great Asby, realised 拢450/head when sold to Messrs Winter, Appleby, with other pens from the same home at 拢320/head and 拢260/head.听
Messrs Hayton, Appleby, sold the fourth-prize pen to Messrs Brown, Leyburn, for 拢400/head, with another pen at 拢335/head to Messrs Allen, Leek.听
The second-prize small breeders pen from Messrs Stephenson, Ravenstonedale, sold to Messrs Addison, Romaldkirk, for 拢380/head.听
Making 拢325/head when sold to Messrs Graves, Carlisle, was a pen of 10 from Messrs Buckle, Barras.听
Messrs Capstick, Ravenstonedale, sold the fourth-placed pen in the small breeders class for 拢320/head to Messrs Deeming, Rugby.

Texels top Gisburn tups
The Twilight Tup sale at Gisburn topped at 拢2,250 for a Texel shearling from T. Craddock and Son, Bolton-by-Bowland who sold other Texels at 拢2,000 and 拢1,900.
Also selling for 拢1,900 was the pre-sale champion, a Texel shearling, from C. D. Cornthwaite, Bolton-by-Bowland, while the reserve champion was a Charollais shearling from M. Worthington, Ramsbottom, which made 拢750.
D. A Towell, Keighley, also sold Texel shearlings to 拢1,900, with others at 拢1,850, 拢1,800 and a two-shear at 拢1,400.
Texel tup lambs reached 拢1,700 for G. Brown, Darwen, with R. S. and J. Bradley, Colne, selling to 拢900. The Texel shearlings levelled at 拢1,105, and lambs at 拢795.
Cross-bred tups sold to 拢2,000 for a Texel cross Beltex from Messrs Craddock, with A. D Morton, Waterfoot, selling to 拢1,750. Overall, cross-bred shearlings averaged 拢880.
Suffolks saw a top price of 拢1,000 for a shearling from M. and N. Gornall, Clitheroe, and Sufflok lambs reached 拢850 for S, Phillipson, Briercliffe, and 拢720 from G. Richmond, Garstang.
Suffolk shearlings averaged 拢780, and lambs 拢530. Dutch Spotted shearlings sold to 拢620 for T. and P. V. M. Pickup, Bolton, and J. Wood, Trawden, who also sold Blue Texels at 拢520.

Southam flock leads Lleyn trade at Cirencester
AT the inaugural Lleyn Sheep Society sale at Cirencester, rams sold to 1,550gns for Southam Osprey by Southam Napoleon, from Lionel Organ, Llandysul, which was knocked down to Harper Holdings.
J.A. and R. Geldard, Kendal, sold a ram from their Wraycastle flock by a Tacho ram for 1,480gns, to M. Miller, Dorset.听
T. and B. Fort, Keighley, sold Brightonhouse Orlando by Goldies Inspiration, also for 1,480gns, to G. Meyrick and Sons, Chipping Norton.听
Shearling ewe were topped by H.M. Wells, Ferwig, with the first-prize pen of five selling for 拢400/head to A. Rees, Ammanford.
Harpers Holding, Holsworthy, sold a pen of five at 拢360/head to new breeders, I. McFarlane, Hampshire, who also bought a pen from Twose Farms, Whitland, at 拢355/head. The more commercial type shearlings sold for 拢250/head听 to 拢280/head.
The aged ewe section saw P. and C. Andrews, Stourbridge, sell two year olds for 拢220/head to D. and S. Searle, Cornwall. S. Lewis, Pembrokeshire, sold three years olds for 拢200/head to S. Collett, Cheltenham.听
Ewe lambs sold to 拢160/head for C. Price, Brecon, selling to E. and A. Farming, Presteigne, and for P. and S. Eckett, Sturminster Newton, and Manor 51AV视频East Marden, Chichester, with their lambs all selling to J.W. Timbs, Charlbury. 听

听Breeding sheep in demand at Ruswarp
AN increased entry met a strong demand ,with averages up on the year in every section of lowland breeding sheep at Ruswarp.
Trade peaked at 拢370/head for the first-prize pen of Mule gimmer shearlings bred by Paul Broughton, Bransdale, and consigned by R. and L. Farming, Commondale, which sold to the judge, Paul Lockey. 听
听R. and L. Farming sold 35 Mule gimmers to average 拢318, as well as Beltex shearlings to a top of 拢350/head to average 拢325.
Unshown gimmer shearlings from Peter Foster, Guisborough, reached 拢320 and 拢305 to average 拢295/head for 33.
Messrs Broughton's third-prize pen of Mule gimmer lambs topped the section at 拢202/head when sold to Messrs Farming, while the first-prize pen from the same home sold to the judge, Jamie Brierley, of J.F. Southgate and Partners, Barrowby, for 拢200/head.
Cheviot Mules from S. Hallam, Egton, topped the ewe section at 拢235/head.

NEMSA lambs peak at 拢680/head at Bentham
The Farmers Guardian supported sale of North of England Mule Society (NEMSA) gimmer lambs at Bentham saw W.M. Hutchinson and Son, Redgate, Kirkby Stephen, lead the trade at 拢680/head, with J. Huddleston, Ravenscar, selling his best pen at 拢600/head.
Judges, Alan Collett, Banbury, and Ted Fox, Biggar, awarded the first prize rosette to S. and T. Fawcett, Barden, with a pen which sold for 拢400/head.
听The second prize pen from Ellis Bros, Addingham, sold to 拢390/head, with the third prize from W.J. and L.A .Barker, Arkholme, at 拢320/head.
听A run of 648 from J. Garth and Son, Keasden, averaged 拢203.25/head including the fourth prize pen at 拢370/head.
The Jackson Partnership consignment, Bentham, levelled at 拢243.48/head with the top pen selling at 拢460/head.
Tupping lambs saw a strong trade with top pens at 拢300 plus, with others 拢240-拢280.
Stronger running lambs were 拢180-拢200/head, with the smaller lambs seeing a large increase of 拢30-拢40/head at 拢155-拢170/head.听听
NEMSA lambs averaged 拢193.84, up 拢33.79 on 2025 with an overall average of 拢191.76/head for the 8,868 sold.听
The 2,163 Cheviot Mules averaged 拢203.54, an increase of 拢22.68 on the year. The winning pen from S.R. and P.A. Thompson, Sedbergh, sold for the top price of 拢310/head.
听A consignment from Adam and Emma Carr, Bentham, topped at 拢300/head with the run of 132 averaging 拢227/head.
A run from Mark Townley and family, Gressingham, topped at 拢285/head.
Most of the tupping lambs were 拢260-拢260/head, with the stronger running sorts 拢190-拢210/head. Running lambs sold between 拢165-拢180/head.听
Scotch Mules from John Dennis, Bentham, sold to 拢300 and 拢270/head with A. Linney, Keasden, also selling to 拢270/head.
A flying trade for the Masham gimmer lambs saw them average of 拢181.23 up 拢28.95 on the year.
The judges, David Chugg, Devon, and Mick Allen, Whitby, chose lambs from Mark and Jack Fawcett, Burton in Lonsdale, as their champion pen, which sold for 拢420/head to Joan Jackson, Yealand Conyers.
Second prize winners from David Buck, Barnard Castle, sold to David Verity, Middlesmoor, for 拢410/head.
Tupping lambs were generally either side of 拢200 with running lambs 拢165-拢185/head.
The winning pen of Dales Mules from M. Taylor and Son, Rathmell, sold at 拢220/head.
Second were Neil and Mary Marston, Cockermouth, whose pen topped the section at 拢260/head.
The average was up 拢28.84 on 2025, to level at 拢176.27/head.
The best pens were 拢200-拢225, the next draw was at 拢175-拢195/head, with the smaller runners 拢155-拢165/head.听

New record set for British Whites
At the British White Cattle Society autumn show and sale at Melton Mowbray, a new breed auction record of 4,000gns was set for the 2023-born cow, Tollesbury Treasure from A.V. and A.K.M/ St Joseph and M. Howland, Maldon, which sold to Falshaw and Partners, Ripon. The first-calved cow is by Tollesbury Pirate EX91, and was sold with a February-born bull calf Tollesbury Thunderbolt by Castleton Brenin at foot.
This tops the previous record of 3,900gns set in February at the same venue by Falshaw and Partners as vendors themselves,听听
Top-priced heifer was Alcroft Peach at 2,700gns from L. Cook, Cambridge
Other top prices on the day included 2,700gns paid for the 2026 National Show junior champion,听 Albany Peach and 2,500gns for the pre-sale show champion, Alcroft Bella, both from the Cook family, Cambridge, and selling to the newly-established North Ings herd of A. Drury and C. Richardson, York. Both the maiden heifers were by Castleton Stanley.
Selling at 2,400gns, also to Messrs Drury and Richardson, was the maiden heifer, Tollesbury Honeygold, from Messrs St Joseph and Howland.听
Buying two new additions for their Savin Hill herd were A. and S. Partington, Kendal, who secured maiden heifers, Templar Patmos from K. and R.P. Harding, Heather, at 2,000gns, and Woodbastwick Slainte from R.H. Farms, Norwich, at 1,800gns.听

Strong prime lamb trade at Kirkby Stephen
Topping the sale of prime lambs at Kirkby Stephen on Tuesday at 拢224 was a 61kg Beltex cross lambs from Jojo Andrews, York, who also sold pens of five 42kg Beltex cross lambs at 拢204/head (485.7p/kg), a pen of nine 43kg lambs at听 拢197head (458.1p/kg), eight 42kg lambs at 拢194.50/head (463.1p/kg) and a pen of four 47kg lambs at 拢190/head (404.3p/kg). The consignment of听 51 Beltex cross lambs from this home averaged 拢191.96 (414.3p/kg). Topping at 495.2p/kg (拢208/head) was a pair of 42kg Rouge lambs from Messrs Fell, Bassenthwaite, who sold another pen of four 42kg Rouge lambs at 拢203/head (483.3p/kg) and a pen of 19 42kg Dutch Texel cross lambs at make 拢186/head (442.9p/kg).
Texel lambs topped at 拢205 for a pair of 59kg lambs from Messrs Lawson, Richmond, and Suffolk lambs peaked at 拢199 for a 59kg lamb from Messrs Wearmouth, Barnard Castle.
Mule lambs sold to 拢177 for a pair of 53kg lambs from Messrs Fairburn, Ripon with this home also selling a pen of nine 50kg lambs at 拢165/head and a pen of 45kg to make 拢151/head (335.6p/kg).
听Messrs Longrigg,听 Appleby in Westmorland, sold a pen of 20 48kg Romney lambs for 拢172.50/head (359.4p/kg).
The overall sale average was 360p/kg with an SQQ of 383.2p/kg.
Cast ewes topped at 拢292/head for Texel cross ewes from Messrs Hill, Great Asby, who sold other pens of Texel ewes at 拢280/head.

Scotch Mules at Dumfries
The annual show and Sale of Scotch Mule ewe lambs at Dumfries saw the championship go to D. Henderson, Sweetshawhead, whose pen sold for 拢215/head. Reserve rosette went to to C.J. Porterous, Penlaw, which sold at 拢195/head.听
According to the auctioneers Scotch Mule ewe lambs were generally smaller in the year and average 拢175.35 (-拢2.12 on 2025).听

Aberdeen-Angus top Penrith stores
The entry of 263 head of store cattle at Penrith topped at 拢2,595/head for a听 pair of Aberdeen-Angus bullocks from W.H. Brass, Low Row. D.G. and L.M. Strong, Sleagill, sold 28-month-old Limousin cross bullocks to 拢2,425.
Heifers topped at 拢2,255 for a pair of dairy-bred British Blues from K.J. Burne, Langwathby. J.G. and D.H. Nevinson, High House, topped at 拢2,235 for a 24-month-old Limousin heifer, with this consignment averaging 拢2,220.
A run of Friesian bullocks from Messrs Brass topped at 拢2,275/head for a pair, with a pen of four following at 拢2,215/head.
R. and E. Holmes, Sleagill, sold a run of seven 14-16-month-old Limousins to average 拢1,967.86.

拢13,000 raised for charity at Lanark
At the sale of 1,029 store cattle at Lanark bullocks sold to 拢2,500 (504p/kg) for a 496kg Limousin cross from A. Baillie, Larkhall, to average 402p/kg. or to 504p/kg.
Heifers peaked at 拢2,290 for a 648kg Limousin cross from J.A. and J.H.W. Smith, Westpark, and to 476p/kg for a 479kg Limousin from Messrs Baillie to average 390.7p/kg.
Dairy bullocks topped at 拢1,750/head (362.3p/kg) for a pen of six Friesians at 483kg from Messrs Beaton, Haggmuir, and averaged 341p/kg.
A Limousin cross bullock from听 bred by the Hamilton family, High Crewburn, and consigned by Messrs Baillie,听 拢2500 to T.听 and J. Clark, Wellhead Farm.听
All proceeds were donated to Leukaemia Research in memory of Lawrie and Symington team member, Elizabeth (Liz) Hamilton.
Prior to selling the bullock, an auction of goodwill raised 拢10,500 for the charity.
