Burnbank Vermont
ÌýA Limousin bull led the trade at the multi-breed sale at Stirling, achieving the day's top of 17,000gns, with the breed enjoying a total clearance of the 36 bulls on offer and a further 10 at five-figure prices.
Leading the way was the first prize winner, Burnbank Vermont, from Dougie and Lynda Graham and sons, John and James, who run a 60-cow herd at Blairdrummond. The rising two-year-old, was an embryo calf, by the 42,000gns Wilodge Vantastic, and out of the Ronick Hawk daughter, Burnbank Undone, which the Grahams cite as their best breeding cow, having previously produced a 14,000gns bull. The buyer was Islay Estates, Bridgend, Islay.
At 14,000gns, Archie and John MacGregor, Allanfauld, Kilsyth, sold their sole entry, the Limousin, Allanfauld Ventura, a natural-born AI son of 180,000gns Graiggoch Rambo, which went to W. McLaren, Muirhouses, Kirriemuir.
Five Limousins hit the 12,000gns mark, including two from Jimmy and Donald MacGregor, Dyke, Milton of Campsie. Both by the 12,000gns past Stirling champion, Goldies Lordoftherings, they were Dyke Vanquish, which sold to Colin McMillan, Tallant, Islay, and Dyke Vanhelsing, which went to E.J. Wilson, East Mains, Forfar. From the same home, Dyke Verdi, another by the Goldies sire, sold at 11,000gns to G.D. MacDonald and Son, Blairgowrie.
The overall Limousin champion, Loanhead Victor, an Anside Supra son from Murray and Nia Rainnie, Dinnet, Aboyne, made 12,000gns to R. and J. Milroy, Pinwherry.
Also at 12,000gns was Goldies Vintage, a Goldies Juggler son from Bruce Goldie, Mouswald, which sold to C. and P. Thomlinson, Belstruther, Duns, and the reserve intermediate champion, Aultside Vagabond, a Foxhillfarm Jasper son from Garry Patterson, Rothes, which was knocked down to P. Cooper and Son, Kincaldrum. Overall, the Limousins averaged £9,494 for 36 bulls.

Simmentals
The Simmental breed enjoyed the day's best average and an 85% clearance, with 28 bulls levelling out at £9758, up by £963 on the year. Top price was 15,000gns for the third prize winner, Maisley Rip, from Michael Stronach, who keeps just three of his own cows at Maisley, Keith, alongside the family's Islavale herd. It was by the Irish-bred Coose Lincoln and sold to J. Gunn, Carsgoe, Halkirk.
Michael's dad Stewart Stronach received 14,000gns for the reserve champion, Islavale Rafferty, which sold to David Lowry, Newsteadings, Lanark. Its sire is Bighill Parker, a bull bought at Roscommon where it was junior champion. A Coose Lincoln son from the Islavale team, Islavale Raphael, stood first in its class and made 12,500gns to Robert Bell, Craigo, Levenview.
Michael Durno's reserve senior champion, Auchorachan Robbie by Hemingford Nelson, from his Glenlivet-based herd, reached 12,000gns to J. Hunter, Braehead, Huntly. Ìý
Charolais
The Charolais also achieved a 15,000gns top, with a further seven making five-figure prices, but a more selective trade saw 24 lots sell through the ring, averaging £8,591.
Leading the way was Bombax Van Dyke, a 17-month-old bull from the Smeaton family, Cotton of Ovenstone, Forfar. It is by the jointly owned stock bull, the 24,000gns Harestone Ronaldinho, which has sired several five-figure bulls. It sold to A.J. MacLean, Tiree.
The overall Charolais champion was Maerdy Vector, from Esmor Evans, Mold, which made the second top price of 13,000gns. By Maerdy Offenback, it sold to pedigree and commercial breeder, Peter Donger, Seawell, Towcester.
Next best, Corrie Vindiesel reached 11,000gns for Duncan and Ashley MacGregor, Burnhead, Kilsyth. The son of Balthayock Lachlan, which was used on loan from the Teiglum herd, was knocked down to Liam Muir, buying for Yarpha Farms, Orkney.

Aberdeen-Angus
The Aberdeen-Angus breed matched that 15,000gns ceiling price, with 25 bulls selling to average £7,237. Top price was for the champion, Brailes Black Boy A360, from Richard and Rachael Wyllie, Moreton in Marsh. Having been yearling male champion last year at Beef Expo and senior male at Stars of the Future, it sold for 15,000gns to the Dunlops, Elmscleugh, Dunbar.
The reserve champion made the second top Angus price of 14,000gns, selling to J.R. Galloway, Cardona, Thornhill. This was Tonley Enzo A204, a Tonley Jester Eric son from George and Nikki Taylor, who run the Mosshall herd, Blackburn. It had been bought as a calf along with his dam, Tonley Ester R161, with the duo costing 10,000gns.
The first part dispersal of Gordon and David Gray's Ettrick herd, Selkirk, saw their Angus females sell to 9,500gns, for a cow and calf unit, Gretnahouse Ellen Erica with a heifer calf, Ettrick Ellen Erica. They went to Grahamslaw Farm, Kelso, who bought several more lots on the day.
Salers
A small entry of Salers bulls sold to high demand, peaking at 16,000gns twice, for both the champion and reserve, with the nine averaging out at £9,625. The champion was Whitebog Ultimo, a son of the French sire Napoleon, from Alister MacKenzie, who runs 150 Salers at Fortrose. It sold at 16,000gns to Colin McClymont, Cuil, Newton Stewart.
Making the same money was the reserve champion, Rednock Unorthordox, from Gill and Malcolm Pye, and daughters Jo and Jenny, Rednock, Port of Menteith. By the French AI bull, Icare, it sold to Murray Lyle, Mid Cambushinnie, Dunblane.
Beef Shorthorn
The Beef Shorthorn trade was well up on the year, with seven averaging £8,355, an increase of £1,708 on the same sale last year. Dearest at 13,000gns was the champion, Vantastic of Upsall by Nelson of Upsall, from Upsall Castle Farms, Thirsk, which sold to Huntlyhill Mains, Lanark. Ìý
Next best at 12,000gns was Jock Currie's Miltonlockhart Victor, which achieved a record price for the 30-cow Lanark-based herd. Sired by the 12,000gns Stonehills Rockstar, it was knocked down to F. McDaid, Slipend, Luton.
