The sale of North Country Cheviot Hill rams at Lairg saw a new breed record of 28,000 set for Bob and Becca Rennie of Bowmont Farming, Kelso.

The 19,434 gimmer lambs on offer at the Farmers Guardian supported North of England Mule Sheep Association show and sale at Hawes averaged 122.35, down 7.69 on the year.

Trade peaked at 52,000 with a record average of 999.39, up 29.30 on the year and an 81.12 per cent clearance rate for the 3626 rams sold at Kelso, achieving a turnover of 3,623,799.

THE online sale of working sheep dogs hosted by Farmers Marts, R.G. Jones, Dolgellau, topped at 25,500 setting what is thought to be a new record for a male dog.

Having set a new breed record for the Kerry Hill breed last year, the Owens family of John, Philippa and daughters Hannah and Ellie, topped that this time at Ludlow when selling a shearling ram for 10,500gns.

It was the Charollais champion, a shearling ewe from Ben and Gemma Hinton’s Furrow Hill flock, Silverstone, which claimed the inter-breed title at Bucks Co Show.
