Forefront Limousin sale peaks at 28,000gns

TWO young heifers with successful 2026 show seasons headed the Forefront sale of Limousin females at Carlisle on behalf of the Goldies, Glenrock and Haltcliffe herds.Ìý

Leading the trade at 28,000gns was Glenrock Angelofthenorth, a first prize-winner at the Scottish Limousin Grand Prix and Royal Highland Show from Stephen and Thomas Illingworth, Lockerbie.ÌýIts pedigree features the Wilodge LJ son, Glenrock Stillgame, on to the Haltcliffe Doctor-sired Glenrock Northernlight.ÌýThe 17-month-old sold to Messrs Suddes, Cornsay herd, Durham.Ìý

At 26,000gns when sold to Willie Barron, Durham, was Glenrock Voodoomagic, which was champion at the Scottish Grand Prix as well as reserve at both the Royal Highland and Great Yorkshire. It is another by Glenrock Stillgame, out of the Sympa daughter, Glenrock Redruby.Ìý

An undisclosed buyer paid 20,000gns for the dearest from the Goldie family's Goldies herd, Mouswald.ÌýTheir two-year-old Knock Msport-sired Goldies Verysweet is out of Goldies Sweetgirl, an Ampertaine Opportunity daughter.Ìý

Messrs Illingworth received a further 19,000gns from Messrs Evans, Tregaron, Ceredigion, for Glenrock Amilliondreams, a 14-month-old Glenrock Stillgame daughter.Ìý

Messrs Williams, Llanwnnen, Lampeter, paid 15,000gns for the Pabo Oldspice-sired Goldies Amber from the Goldie family, while Messrs Percival, Milford, Belper, forked out 14,000gns for Glenrock Aphrodite, a Goldies Oxo daughter from the Illingworths.Ìý

The Ridley family's Haltcliffe herd, Wigton, Cumbria, peaked at 11,000gns for Haltcliffe Adele, a 19-month-old Westpit Omaha daughter that sold to Messrs Kitson, Yarm, Cleveland.ÌýÌý

Market Drayton dairies top at £3,800

AT the August show and sale at Market Drayton, it was a second-calver, Bidlea Pride Papoose, from Ray Brown and Partners, Holmes Chapel, that topped the entry at £3,800.

It stood second in the pedigree cow class with another from the same home standing first and selling for £3,550.

The champion, a pedigree heifer, Sandley May 229, from George H. Sanderson and family, Preston, realised £3,780.

Heifers from Hilltop Farming Co, Northwich, sold to £3,680 and £3,580, while the first-prize commercial heifer from R. and J. Madders, Adbaston, made £3,400.

A second-calver and a fourth-calver from Clayden 51AVÊÓƵPartners, Crewe, also made £3,400 apiece.

Averages – 11 cows, £3,111; 22 heifers, £2,904.

Sheepdogs sell to £10,900 online

THE online sale of working sheepdogs hosted by Farmers Marts topped at £10,900 for 30-month-old Preseli Lass, a Rooten Brook Max daughter from Llion Harries, Pembrokeshire, which went to a buyer from Israel.

At £10,100 was Mainstay Jock, a four-year-old son of Cydros Boss from Emma Gray, Isle of Bute, which sold to a buyer from Lancashire.

Also making £10,100 was Pip from Katherine Wheeler, Co Mayo, which sold to West Yorkshire.

Mist, from C. Slater, Brecon, sold for £8,200, Nick from Mark MacQueen, Isle of Syke, made £8,100 and Queen from Danny Mitchell, Newton Stewart, sold for £8,000.

Huntaways sold to £3,000 for Boss, a son of Ellis Rees' Tone from Danial Worthington.

Topping the partly-trained section at £8,700 was Belway Flint from Ben de Kerf, Norway, which sold to a buyer in Devon.

Making £8,600 was partly-trained, Gyp, by Gelli Rod from Alex Linell, Staffordshire.Ìý

The top price pup at £3,350 was six-month-old Jess, a daughter of L. Ward's Mirk, which sold to Italy.

Valuable sets NI record

A NORTHERN Irish record was set in the online production sale of CherryValley Beef Shorthorns on behalf of Dr Peter Fitzgerald, Crumlin, Co Antrim.

Setting the record price of £17,200 for a Beef Shorthorn female sold in Northern Ireland was CherryValley Valuable, a 28-month-old by Creaga Rolex bred from the Creaga Logic daughter, CherryValley Petra.

Following on at £4,700 was the Creaga Logic-sired CherryValley Voila, while the Meonside Randango-sired CherryValley Valentine realised £4,500.

Bulls reached £4,200 for CherryValley Young Gun, a March 2025-born son of Meonside Randango.

Averages – 2 bulls, £4,100; 5 in-calf heifers, £6,780; 6 maiden heifers, £3,566.
