North Country Cheviot peak at £8,000 at Dingwall
There wasÌýa buoyant trade at the sale of North Country Cheviot Hill rams at Dingwall and Highland Marts where 650 rams sold to average £930.
Topping the sale at £8,000Ìýwere Roderick and Lewis Runciman, Galashiels, with Allanshaws Everest, a two-shear by Philiphaugh XcitableÌýout of an Inkstack Tima siredÌýewe. It was knocked down to Messrs Sutherland, BracksideÌýand D.N. Campbell and Son, Campbells.
The Allanshaws pen sold six two-shear rams to average £5,400, all by Philiphaugh Xcitable. Allanshaws EmeraldÌýmade £6,800Ìýand heads to Iain Mackay's Torloisk flock, Mull, while Allanshaws EmpireÌýand Allanshaws EastwoodÌýeach sold for £5,000Ìýto Mackenzie, CraiglandsÌýand Messrs Polson, Aest Burn, respectively.

Making £7,500 was Mill House DesignerÌýfrom Andrew Campbell's Caithness-based flock, which was reserve male champion at the National ShowÌýand male champion at Caithness ShowÌýearlier this year. The buyer was Messrs Dunlop, Commonside.
Judging the pre-sale show was Neil Montgomery, Ose, who found his champion in Farquhar Renwick's Strathcaniard pen, Ullapool. The winning ram by Allanshaws Ben Nevis which has already sold sons to £20,000 this year, went on to make £5,500 to Pat Wilson Farms, Lochrosque. The Strathcaniard pen sold two more rams at the same money—one heading to Coul Estate, Auchterarder, and the other to David Baillie's Calla flock, Lanark.
Reserve championÌýwas a four-shear from Hugh Mackenzie, Badanloch - Balmacara Class Act, which made £3,500Ìýto Phil and Amy Jones' Clytha flock, Wales.

ÌýAverages up for suckled calves at Bishops Castle
ÌýTrade for suckled calves peaked at £2,850 at Bishops Castle with prices up to £600 and 220p/kg up on last year.
The Perpetual Jack Bedell Challenge Cup was won by J. A. Wood and Sons, Church Stretton with a pen of British Blue cross steers and topped the steers at £2,260 (515p/kg) followed by others at £2,100.
Bowen and Bowen, Brooks, sold British Blue cross steers to £2,100. Charolais cross steers sold to £1,880 for Fernyhough and Fernyhough, Newtown, and to £1,680 for B. and M. James, Newtown. Limousin cross steers peaked at £2,120 for J.H.M. Williams and Co, Llanidloes, and £2,080 for Messrs Wood. They also topped the heifer prices at £2,850 for British Blue crosses and sold Limousin cross heifers to £2,140. Charolais cross heifers topped at £1,750 for D.W.R. Reynolds, Knighton.
Averages – 84 steers calves, 518p/kg (+152p/kg on 2024) and £1,828/head (+£544); 78 heifer calves, 551p/kg (+201p/kg) and £1,858 (+£678).

Carlisle beef day tops at 5,000gns
Aberdeen-Angus bulls led the trade at the pedigree beef day at Carlisle topping at 5,000gns for Tree Bridge Jericho A136, a May 2024-born son of Tree Bridge Paterson U737 out of Tree Bridge Jody W855 consigned by D. Evans, Middlesbrough. The buyer was Messrs Hodgson, Kirkby Stephen.
Next making 4,500gns from the same home was Tree Bridge Patriot A113 by the same sire out of Tree Bridge Polly Pride U717 which was knocked down to Messrs Morris, Wrexham.
At the same money was May 2024-born Crook Hill Dallas A089 by ONeills Black BardolierÌý out of Crook Hill Duchess Windsor X051 from William and Margaret Taylor, Stocksfield, which sold to Messrs Pugh, Wrexham.
Charolais bulls sold to 3,250gns twice. Firstly, for Balmyle Victor, a March 2024-born son of Balmyle Patrick from W.P. Bruce, Meigle, Perthshire. It sold to McNabney Bros, Newton Stewart, who paid the same money for May 2024-born Crookdake Vanleropp by Sportsmans Linesman from D.A. and S.M. Miller, Wigton.
Beef Shorthorn females topped at £3,550 for 2022-born Baronwood Sovereign by Barwood Nobleman from Lazonby Estate Farms, Penrith. It sold with a heifer calf at foot and in-calf again to Messrs Robinson, Penrith.
Making 3,200gns was 2021-born Baronwood Roxanne by the same sire and with a bull calf at foot and in-calf again, which was knocked down to Messrs Lawson, Huntly.
At the same price was the 2018-born in-calf cow, Barwood Flossy Molly by Highlee Gabriel which sold to Ainscough Farms, Wigan.
Hereford heifers sold to 2,100gns for Barwise 1 Amazing Grace, an April 2024-born daughter of Moeskaer Ultra U1582 from C.S. Fletcher, Appleby-in-Westmorland, which sold to Messrs Moscrop, Irthington, who also paid 2,050gns for February 20240-born Barwise 1 Graceful by Barwise 1 Proteus from the same home.

Welsh Mountain rams in demand
The second sale of Meirionydd, Ceredigion and Maldwyn Welsh Mountain rams at Dolgellau saw the 276 rams average £742 with an 87% clearance rate.
The sale topped at 5,500gns twice for E.W., M.M. and D. Jenkins, Tynygraig, with yearling rams which sold firstly to D.B. Evans, Penyglog, and then to E.I. Lewis and Sons, Henllan Isaf.
They also had the next top price of 5,200gns selling to I.G.M. and M.W. Jones, Ty Gwyn, and the third top price of the day, 4200gns, when selling to D.G. Jenkins, Tanrallt.

Flying trade for suckled calves at Kirkby Stephen
THERE were 475 suckled calves on offer at Kirkby Stephen where trade peaked at £4,500.
The sale leader was a seven-month-old Limousin heifer from K.A. Brown and Sons, Great Asby, which was bought by Messrs Slack and Haughan, Penrith.
Another 10-month-old Limousin heifer from the same home made £3,750 to Messrs Amos, Leicester.
The judge, Liam Rodney, Ripon, awarded the overall championship to the Brown family with an 11-month-old Limousin steer which he went on to buy for £3,400.
The Browns also took the reserve championship with a seven-month-old British Blue heifer which sold for £2,400 to Messrs Amos, who also paid £2,600 for another of their Limousin steers.
Another Limousin heifer made £2,700 to Messrs Millar, Canonbie, with the consignment of 45 British Blue and Limousin steers and heifers, which had an average age of seven months, averaging £2,035.67.
Messrs Beveridge, Bishop Auckland, sold a nine-month-old British blue heifer at £2,880 to Messrs McAlister, Bonnybridge, and a pair of nine-month-old Limousin heifers at £2,425 each to Messrs Ridley, Hexham, with their consignment of 17 four to nine-month-old Limousin and British Blue steers and heifers averaging £2,053.24
Messrs Hayton, Great Asby, sold a seven-month-old Limousin heifer at £2,700 to Messrs Grainger, Wigton, while their consignment of 37 Limousin and British Blue bullocks and heifers averaged £1,986.76.
Bulls topped at £2,300 for an eight-month-old Blue cross Limousin from Messrs Pedley, Barbon, selling to Rodney Brothers, Ripon.
Averages - Steers, £1,902.37 (+£644.79 on 2024); heifers, £1,863.59 (+£641.71); overall, £1,885.10.

Champion tops Bellingham sale at Hexham
AN entry of 847 suckled calves that went under the hammer at Hexham for the Bellingham show and sale averaged £1,643, up £582/head on the year, with steers averaging £1,674 and heifers £1,595/head.
The sale topped at £2,900 for the champion, a black British Blue cross heifer from the Storrow family, Willimoteswick, Barden Mill, which sold to the Morlee family, Hardriding, Barden Mill.
Their 21 calves included at steer at £2,200 and averaged £2,097/head, up £760 on the year.
The reserve champion, a British Blue steer from Messrs Walton, Peneigh, Barden Mill, made £2,250 to the judge, Andrew Moralee, Blackburn Farm, Langley Park.
Eric and Mark Armstrong, Whitfield, topped with steers at £2,340 and sold heifers to £1,960.
Messrs Walton, Flotterton, peaked at £2,300 for their second prize Charolais cross steer and sold six calves to average £2,183, a lift of £760/head on the year.
The 15 calves from James McGregor, Berwick, topped at £2,220 for a three-quarter bred Limousin steer and averaged £2,013.

Records broken at Longtown
A NEW centre record for a suckled calf of £4,400 was set at Longtown for the pre-sale show champion, a seven-month-old British Blue cross heifer by Solwayview Rob Roy from Messrs Reed and Hill, Hexham.
The buyers were Willie and Ryan Walton, Penpeugh, Hexham, to join their suckler herd.
Reserve champion was awarded to the first prize Limousin steer consigned by Messrs Dent, Beamwham, Hexham, which went on to make £2,060 to the judge, George Rome, Rigg, Dumfriesshire.
The Beef Shorthorn section topped at £2,180 for a forward steer from M.E. and T.D. Tailford, Hexham.

Penrith dairy tops at £3,300
A LARGE entry of mixed breeds, ages and stages of lactation was on offer at Penrith's monthly dairy day, where a top price of £3,300 was paid for a Holstein Friesian heifer.
Consigned by G. and E.A. Harrison, Mount Clifton, whose three-strong entry averaged £2,900, it sold to A. and W. Johnston, White Fold, just seven days calved.
A British Friesian from R.W. and J. Bell, Kirkbride, that calved its third 15 days prior, sold to Messrs Beard, Dormansteads, for £3,150 giving 31 litres.
Dry cows sold to £1,900 for a Holstein Friesian from J. and B. Donald, Lamonby Hall. It changed hands due to start its fourth lactation in December, and sold to W.H. Brass.
A run of mid-lactation New Zealand Friesian cows, due to calve April to June, averaged £1,066.25, having topped at £1,200.

Willsbro Holsteins hit 8,600gns
BUYERS from throughoutÌý Britain were out in force for the fourth part of the dispersal from Messrs Wills' Willsbro Holsteins, Wadesbridge, Cornwall, hosted at Exeter.
With the sale averaging more than £2,250 for 240, of which more than half were calves under nine months of age, the top price of 8,600gns was paid for the second calver, Willsbro McDonald Twizzle Red 4299. This VG85-classified cow giving more than 50kg sold to Messrs Hodgson, Wormanby.
Selling for 7,500gns to James McNeil's Cairnpat herd, Stranraer, was a heifer named Willsbro Hardy Adina 5627 VG86-2yr.
Willsbro Holysmokes Pammy 5507 ET VG86-2yr sold to N.W. and J.M. Coulthurst and Son for the Edenfield herd, Lancashire, for 5,800gns.
At 5,600gns was Willsbro Hardy Vaakje 5651 VG85-2yr which sold to Kevin and Christine Wilson of the Warnelview herd, Carlisle.
Leading the calf offering at 5,200gns was a two-month-old red calf, Willsbro McDonald Roxy Red 7670 which was bred from nine generations of EX dams. It sold to Andrew Bailey, Baileys herd, Yorkshire.
Messrs Awde, of the Broadmeadows herd, Cumbria, paid 3,000gns for Willsbro Hulu Twizzle 7736.
Averages - 103 cows and calved heifers, £3,465.51; 49 February/March-born calves, £1,766.78; 88 July to September-born calves, £1,115.03.

Suckled calves in demand at Bentham
A LIMOUSIN heifer from K. and G.J. Huck, Austwick, topped the suckled calf sale at Bentham when it sold for £2,800 to B. and T. Kitson, Cleveland.
The overall champion, a British Blue cross bull from G.W. Wallbank, Keasden, realised £2,750 when bought by E.R. Hyde and Sons, Wakefield.
A run of 67 Charolais and Simmental calves from Fishwick Farms, Cartmel, peaked at £2,400 for bullocks to average £1,832, a rise of £621 on the year.
Heifers with breeding potential were well sought after, reaching £2,400 for a Limousin cross heifer from E. and M. Townley, Clapham.

Higgins family secures Bill Higgins Cup
LOCAL farmer, Rob Higgins, secured the Bill Higgins Cup donated in memory of his great grandfather, for the fourth time with his champion heifer in-milk going on to top the Shrewsbury dairy show at £3,950.
Messrs Higgins' champion from Longnor, Shrewsbury, was a heifer named Bentleyford Mitchell Dazy GP84.
Three females sold for £3,750 apiece including the second and third prize heifers – Glanmarton Hampshire Grace 7 from G.L.L. and E.M. Lewis, Welsh Frankton, and Hallon Crushabull Holly from R.T. Tudor and Son, Worfield – as well as Liscabank Level Nora also from Messrs Lewis.
Cows sold to £3,380 for a third calver from the final consignment from Gordon Dutton's herd, Chester, with second calvers to £3,200 from the same home as well as £3,150 for the second prize cow from R.J., E.M. and A.J. Wilson, Leebotwood.
Averages - 21 freshly calved cows £2,640.48; 15 freshly calved heifers £3,000; nine in-calf heifers £1,970; 6 in-milk cows £2,005; 10 in-milk heifers £2,132; 4 dry cows and heifers £1,875.

Limousin heifer leads at Darlington
AVERAGES were well up on the year at a show and sale of store cattle at Darlington, where an 18-month-old Charolais heifer from C.W. Gray, Amble, topped the entry at £2,680.
The same home secured the pre-sale championship with a Limousin heifer which went on to sell to N. Hetherington, Stockton, for £2,650, with Simmentals from the same home to £2,540.
Bulls sold to £2,500 for a Limousin from D.R. and R.L. Burns, Upper Broughton.
Six steers shared the £2,300 top price – two British Blues from G.B. Howsam, Boston; two Aberdeen-Angus from D. Walker, Crook; and two Limousins from J.G. Wilkinson, Staindrop.
Reserve champion was a Blue steer from Jack Sewell, Hamsterley, which sold to R.W. Barker and Sons, Grantham, for £2,250.
Cast cattle sold to £3,508 for a Limousin bull from Messrs Simpson, Hamsterley, while cows sold to £2,786 and 400p per kg for Limousins from C.W. Jackson, Bishop Auckland.
Store lambs reached £151 for six Beltex from W. Wearmouth and Sons, Bishop Auckland.
Feeding sheep sold to £270 for a Texel tup from M.R. Cass, Scarborough, with ewes to £168 for Texels from M. Hogg, Washington.

Close behind on 1,500gns when sold to T.M. Griffiths, Tyddyn Felin, was a yearling from E.A. Davies and Co, Dolwerfyl.
The champion, a yearling from I.W. Williams, Ty Celyn, sold to the judge, Sion Ifans, Bryn Uchaf, for 1,000gns.
