Records smashed at Pateley Bridge show potential cattle sale

A new centre record of £15,500 was set at the Farmers Guardian-supported show and sale of show potential cattle at Pateley Bridge

The sale topper was the pre-sale show champion, a Limousin cross heifer by Huntershall Odessey out of a British Blue cow from J. C. Walker and Son, Dunsop Bridge. It was bought by Neil Slack and Elizabeth Haughan, Penrith.

Messrs Walker also had the second and fourth prize winning British Blue sired heifers, which sold for £3,200 and £4,000 respectively.

Judge Michael Robertson, Tomintoul, awarded the reserve championship to the second prize winning Limousin cross heifer from M. R. Ewbank, Middlesmoor, which went on to sell for £4,100 to Martin Allan, Appleby. They also had the winning any other breed heifer, a British Blue, which sold for £4,400.

Messrs Ewbank also had the steer champion, a Limousin cross, which sold for £2,800. The reserve steer champion was the second prize winning Limousin, consigned by K. and G. J. Huck, Austwick, which sold for the top steer price of the day of £2,900. Messrs Huck also had the third and fourth prize Limousin heifers, which made £2,900 each.

The unhaltered cattle were judged by James Crichton, Egremont, who awarded the championship to a Limousin steer from Andrew Warren, Gomersal, which later sold for £2,600 to Wagstaff Brothers, York.

The reserve championship went to a British Blue heifer from E. and M. Townley, Clapham, whichÌýsold for £2,250 to I. M. Maughan, Hamsterley.

Averages: Heifers, £1,934.67 (including the champion) / £1,804.23 (excluding the champion); steers, £1,943.20.
